Financial assistance to obtain assistive technology, through low-interest loans for qualified Hawaiʻi residents.
What this service is
Our Alternative Financing Program helps qualified Hawaiʻi residents with disabilities obtain low-interest loans for assistive technology. This program is in partnership with American Savings Bank to provide Hawaiʻi residents with disabilities access to new resources and tools that can improve their quality of life through independence.

Who is eligible
- Hawaiʻi resident
- Has a documented disability
- Needs assistive technology
What can I get?
Some examples of what you can purchase with our loan include, but are not limited to:
- Power wheelchairs and wheelchair lifts
- Home modifications such as a roll-in shower
- Computers and communication devices
- Vehicle modifications

If the ATRC loan program isn't the right fit, other funding sources to explore include:
Insurance & public coverage
- Review private insurance plans for equipment coverage
- Public insurance programs like Medicare and Medicaid could help cover assistive technology costs
Government & public agencies
- State Department of Education — support for education-related AT
- Department of Vocational Rehabilitation — support for employment-related needs

Submit your documentation
Provide proof of Hawaiʻi residency and documentation of your disability to verify eligibility.

Complete & submit the application
Fill out the application form and return it to ATRC. Once reviewed, you'll be notified of approval and funding.
